President Bola Tinubu has directed the military high command to convert its vast expanse of land across the country into an agricultural hub as part of efforts to address the growing food shortage and insecurity in the country. Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos), during an interview, said the directive is part of efforts to ensure that no land is left ungoverned, while also providing food for Nigerians. Benson who represents Ikorodu also hailed the President for his efforts at ensuring local governments have autonomy and are able to administer their funds which he believe will be felt at the local level. He said: “I thank. Mr President. He has mandated the Armed Forces to put farming in the front burner to ensure that all the land they have across the country are cultivated for farming because of his belief that if there is food security, insecurity will reduce.” Benson also hinted the House Committee on Defence will be engaging with the Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs to discuss how they intend to carry out the President’s directive.
