Agovernorship aspirant in the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, Dr. Olamide Ohunyeye, has begun the tour of the 18 local governments.

The tour, according to a statement by his media office in Abuja, is geared towards engaging stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the citizens.

Ohunyeye, who recently declared his intention to contest the governorship election, said he had a development blueprint to engineer economic rebirth of the state and improve its economic indices.

He said his campaign is anchored on the acronym ‘AGES’, where A stands for All-around Security, G for Good Governance and E for Economic Empowerment of the Citizenry.

Speaking with party stakeholders in Okitipupa, Ohunyeye lamented the lingering power outage in the Southern Senatorial District of the state for over a decade, which had wreaked havoc on the economic lives of the people.

He promised to make decisive intervention in collaboration with appropriate agencies such as Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to restore electricity and take people out of darkness within two months of getting to office as governor.

On the issue of moribund industries across the state, Ohunyeye promised to establish new industries and where possible resuscitate the dead ones “in order to create jobs for our teeming youths.”

He said 90 per cent of the raw materials used at the defunct Oluwa Glass Industry are available in Ilaje Local Government, the raw material for the ailing Okitipupa Oil Mill are available in Okitipupa, Irele and Ese Odo local governments.

“We need to be more creative and innovative in governance, to increase the economic development of Ondo State.

“We cannot rely absolutely on revenues from the Federation Account when God has endowed us with enormous resources,” Ohunyeye added.

He told the people that if voted into office, he would bring partners and collaborate with strategic investment capacity to transform the economy of Ondo State.

He said: “We have the capacity and resources to achieve this goal of economic rebirth with the support of the people of Ondo State.”

Sesan Temenu, who stood in for the APC chairman in Okitipupa Local Government, welcomed Ohunyeye to the governorship race and hailed his past commitment and dedication towards the development of his Ilutitun Osooro Community and Ikaleland in general.

He said his aspiration to lead the state would be supported.

Other notable leaders present at the event also extolled the leadership qualities of the governorship aspirant and pledged their support for his noble desire.
