Fed Govt gives completion date for road

The Federal Government has said though work is ongoing on the Eleme-Onne section of East-West Road in Rivers State, it is very slow pace.

Works Minister David Umahi said this while addressing reporters yesterday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.Umahi, who is on a two-day working visit in the state, inspected the project on Saturday for on-the-spot assessment of the job.

The minister acknowledged that the contractor was doing quality job but expressed the need for him to speed up work before the rains set.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not want the job to lapse into the rainy season to save the public from experiencing more hardship.The former Ebonyi State governor promised to announce the time for the completion of the project after a meeting with the contractor today.

Umahi threatened to terminate the job, if the contractor failed to be specific about the date of completing the job.

“After the meeting with contractors tomorrow (today), then I will be able to tell the public when to expect the completion of work on Eleme-Onne section of East/West Road.

“But if they are not willing, I will take them to Mr. President, and then we have the job terminated and get another contractor to do the job.

“Mr. President will not like to see that road in such a bad shape during this year’s rainy season. He will not be happy about it,” he said.

The minister assured Nigerians that funding for the project was not a problem, adding that the contractor was living up to the track record of quality work.
